WATCH: Obama Campaign Targets Romney’s Massachusetts Record

The Obama campaign is out with a new video attacking Mitt Romney’s record as governor of Massachusetts, arguing that Romney failed to deliver on his promises to turn around the state’s economy.

The brutal 4 minute ad begins by noting that Romney made the same claim in 2002 that he has in 2012: that his business experience makes him uniquely well qualified to run the economy. Then, through interviews with local politicians, it points out that Romney actually ended up raising fees and failing to create jobs.

“Romney economics does not work,” the ad concludes. “It didn’t work in Massachusetts, and it’s not gonna work in Washington.”

The video represents a pivot from attacking Romney’s record at Bain Capital to attacking his record in office. As Greg Sargent notes:

The point is to get voters to see Romney as more than a generic alternative to their disillusionment with the pace of the recovery, and to understand that despite his aura of having an economic magic touch, he’s offering a set of policies and ideas that have been tried before.

Romney press secretary Andrea Saul has responded to the ad in a statement, calling it “another desperate attack from President Obama because he has no positive record to run on.”
